Linkages & Healthy Practices

For innovative method of teaching and other research programmes, the college invites Guest Lecturers / Resource persons from Leading institutions for training and research under autonomy. The College conducts Seminars / Workshops, etc. for the benefit of the students and teaching faculty by establishing linkages with the following national / international institutes: 

  • International YMCAs
  • Personnel Training Division of National Council of YMCAs of India
  • St. John's Ambulance for training students in First Aid
  • National Associations of different sports and games to conduct Referee exams and to train the students in their respective games / sports, conduct Referee tests and award of certificates
  • Christoffel Blinden Mission, West Germany to sponsor Specialists to train and research activities in the area of "Physical Education for Blind / Disabled"
  • Rehabilitation Council of India has recognized the college to offer courses for disabled and B.M.S. offered by the college is recognized by RIC
  • Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu to supplement coaching facilities of the college
This enabled us to achieve the following in the recent past, which proved the healthy practices the college is pursuing has wider acceptance:
  • Manipal Medical College deputed its Senior Physiotherapist for higher training in our Fitness Centre under the supervision of Dr.Kannan Pugazhendi, our staff
  • Our Medical Officer cum Lecturer was deputed to Sri Ramachandra Medical College for setting up Department of Fitness
  • Also accompanied the Indian Hockey Team in the World Olympic Atlanta in 1999 and also the Indian Hockey Team for the World Olympics in March 2002
  • All the special institutions in and around Chennai and the neighbouring states have link to our Project Physical Education for the Blind. 
  • Staff of the college are serving as team managers / organizing officers of various state / national level competitions / tournaments.
  • Staff of the college accompanied manager for Special Olympics contingent of India to USA
  • Ms. Amy, International Swimming coach from Chicago, USA and Mr.Eric, International Basketball player from Chicago, USA shared their expertise at the college in the recent past
  • Dr.Mrs.Esther Ranjini, Principal and Dr.Mrs.Sheila Stephen are scheduled to take specialized training in their areas of expertise at Springfield College, USA from January to March, 2003

The college started self-financing courses under autonomy from the year 1986 and they are helpful in achieving the goals of the college.

The college also conducts number of workshops and seminars both in small groups as well as for the entire students, which enables them to learn from experts. Group discussions and group learning process are also encouraged so that weak students could be taken care of.

Every student is expected to attend a one-week leadership and training camp as part of their curriculum. Close monitoring is being given to develop the students' communication skills during this period. Apart from this, during class hours they are required to prepare an assignment and teach in the class. Further, every student is expected to attend a 40-day teaching practice. All these will make them to earn adequate communication skills.
